My jeep won't take off from 1st unless i manually put it in first, its in 3rd. It does this all the time unless if it is its first drive for a while, once it shifts out of first on the first drive, it will not take off from it again unless you manually do so. It also will not "settle" into overdrive. Its like 400 rpm off from where it usually sits. If you play with it ( making it downshift and upshift repeatedly) sometimes it will settle into overdrive like it should. The weird part is that it is still in 4th gear because you can still downshift it into 3rd, but its not sitting at the correct rpm for where it normally would for the same speed. The overdrive issue used to occasionally pop up for the last several months but it wasnt often enough for me to worry too much and i could usually fix it by just stopping and putting the jeep into park and back into drive, but now i cant fix it and its eating what little mpg the jeep had, up.
I have adjusted the kickdown cable and ive also swapped the transmission control module out of a 93 parts cherokee to no avail. Being a 96 it doesn't have the little fuse going to the tcm. My next attempt is going to to check all the wiring going down to the tranny for any damage or corrosion while i wait for any ideas on here.
