Is the '96 & up 4.0l the same as my '95?
I am going to be swapping the motor from my '95 cherokee for a wrecking motor, and have found a pretty good deal on a '98 4.0l from a cherokee. Would this be a direct swap, or is this something that will take a lot of work, if its possible at all? I know that '95 and older is OBDI, and anything after is OBDII.
Thanks for any help.

There are a few minor differences between a 95 4.0 and a 98 4.0. One thing is that there is not a water temp sending unit at the rear of the 98 4.0 cylinder head. The 98 has a stronger lower end because it had a main bearing girdle. The 98 will work for you, you just need to figure out what to do for the water temp sender.

So if i'm understanding this correctly, basically all ill need to do is drill and tap the rear of the head on the '98 for the temp sending sensor, and swap all my '95 accessories on to the '98 long block?

Are you installing a manual? Yea, pilot bearing issues there. Pretty sure the engine will be ok if you keep the sensors that go with your current puter'. Like said the 98 FPR is not on the rail like yours is. I'm not at all sure how that works. I believe the pressure is the same, I can check.
And yea, you can relocate the temp sender to the t-stat housing, or drillnn' tap the head.
