Well the problem came back after I thought I fixed it. First off the pcm plug header moves since there are three plugs hanging from it, which cause the solder contacts on the larger removable plate ro come loose. I got good reading on all of them even when moving the header. I went ahead and soldered each one anyway. I recommend doing this even if they test well, and you will see why when you see the pathetic amount of solder they use at the factory. And now from my experience not that if your voltage regulator dies that all you have to do is remove it from the larger plate that has to be removed as its all surface solder and not through board chip soldering which makes it very easy to replace if you can solder well and can find the regulator chip. Now it runs perfect with 3.5 more mpg. That is until the bad connector on the ignition coil gets replaced, cuz when I move it in a certain way it dies. That's easy so I'm not worried about that.

Hi SgtP_USMC,
i have read all the post, im from Mexicali Mexico and have exact the same problem with my Xj 96, after being all night at home and drive above 2 miles or 5 minutes it turns off and well you know all the story, the same going back from work to home after being sitting all day.
if i don't miss something after reading, are you saying you change the coil and that was all the problem???

!!FIXED!!
It was something simple. I'm not a pro with distributors. I thought that since there was no spark to the distributor, there wasn't a need to consider it as a problem yet. Well, it turns out that the pick up coil in the distributor sends a signal to the pcm that tells it when to spark up the ignition coil. So I replaced the pick up coil in the distributor and it fired right up. Its running smooth now.
Thanks for all your help and input. It was definitely a fun ride and I'm going to pay it forward help someone like you guys helped me. Thanks again.

I'm on the Lifetime Jeep Replacement Program. If you decide to keep your Jeep for a lifetime, you will replace your Jeep completely, one part at a time. At least once.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right. Now that I think about it, I replaced an IAC for a friends girlfriend a few years ago on an Infinity J30. Front-wheel drive V6 cars are my least favorite for engine work because there was no friggin room to work with. I tore apart the entire intake region of that engine just to get to it. He was ready to drop a few hundred bucks on a new one but I cleaned it with meticulous detail and the car ran fine after. I think I'll try that and I'll get back at you in the next few days. If anyone else has had this happen to them please chime in.
What is the significance of "PotatoWalker" ? You just like 'taters??
