Default 96 XJ Starting Issue

So my Jeep has been giving me problems starting up. The jeep will start up every time with a cold start, but after driving for 10 min or more the 2nd, 3rd or more starts will become more and more difficult.

On the 2nd start I will have to turn on the ignition, crank the motor a few seconds then turn the ignition off. Once i turn the ignition back on I hear the fuel pump prime and then the motor will start. The more times I drive turning the motor on and off the more cycles of this process i will have to do.

Yesterday I was at REI and it was about 99/100 degrees here in Oregon. I came out to the jeep and it wouldnt start. I had to cycle the ignition 20 or 25 times before it would. It was a very rough start acting like it was not getting any fuel for about 5 seconds then it picked up to normal idle. The jeep has done this before when the weather gets hot but not this bad.

I know the fuel pump is working because once the motor is running i never have a hiccup but what else can I check it find out what the problem is.

Thanks for the help and sorry for such a long post.

I'd at least make a cursory check of your fuel pressure, make sure it holds a while after shutdown. Pressure on the low side will aggravate a heat soak issue.
