Yes, Section 21 of the '99 FSM says the capacity is 8.45 quarts (Section 0 says 8.25 quarts).
Section 21 also says when the trans is overhauled and the TC was drained or replaced, to add 5 quarts.
When I pulled my engine I drained the trans and replaced the trans cooler lines and couplers (radiator cooler drained). I got nearly 6 quarts from this. I didn't remove the TC and there was fluid still in it but below the centerline of the TC. I figure there was at least 2 quarts remaining in the TC.
So... 8.45 quarts for the system sounds about right.
If there was an external oil cooler there would be more in the system. 3.55 quarts in the external cooler = 12 quarts (?). I don't know.

Indeed! Slow hand salute to those who didn't come home.

In my opinion, the best Chrysler transmission was the 3-speed A727 Torqueflite. The Ramchargers used them in their drag cars for cripes sake! Supposedly the 42re and 46rh are related to it, but IDK where the toughness went!

Go to walmart and buy a Gallon of Valvoline Dex/Merc. Itll run 12 or 13 dollars and you'll use most but not all of it. Keep the extra to top it off later.
Around here the big box auto stores cant touch Walmart on their oil prices. Unless i have rewards points saved up all my oil purchases come from wallyword.
