Hi, I need the Internal (transmission) wiring harness. Supply houses do not have it. My Jeep not shifting back to first gear when I stop, have to manually shift gears. Anybody know where I can get wiring harness?

I would try another transmission computer before I started digging in the transmission. I am not certain if they are still a separate unit in 98 or not. My trans had the same problem and a different computer cleared it right up.

The lack of shifting into 1st is often solenoids.Test them at the TCM before you open the trans or buy any parts.

  1. Stop throwing parts at it. Ask, test, diagnose, then replace.
  2. Describe the problem you are having, in detail.
  3. We'll take it from there.

Have a jeep friend who has lots of parts laying around-not like I'm paying a fortune for them. He has been working on jeeps for years. We arent just throwing stuff at it. He did ask and thats what he came up with. I'm not good with vehicles so it's a little hard for me to explain. From what he says you have to put it down in 1st(/2nd) to pull out and also again when stopped (lights signs.. ect). and recently he said sometimes have to put it in 3 to pull out. It's like it doesnt shift correctly, but once going we can switch to drive and go.

Even if they are free, it's wasting time.

There are tons of people (the vast majority) right here on this forum, and every other Jeep forum, who have been working on them for years and still don't know what they are doing. They guess and start firing the parts cannon.

If he didn't do, or have you do, any actual testing, he's just throwing parts at it.

Test. Diagnose. Then replace.
