Default 98 cold shift problem help !

I own a 98 sport 2wd Street jeep, No off road mods and never tried, lol Id get stuck.

Anyways, when the weather gets Below Zero or close to it, the Truck doesn't want to shift past 1st, or 2nd, into 3rd, etc...etc.. In reverse its Fine? Starts fine, warms up to just below 210, and the Check engine light is on, Now, this all goes away when the weather warms up?

Took it to a transmission shop.

(bells transmission) mechanic said it's a part on the trans that has developed some serious corrosion over the years, and some Bolt/Nut has fallen off of it, and that the corrosion MAY or MAY NOT have gone into the Transmission, he said its a 50/50.

I guess there is some Rod. Or large Pin that connects to this part that is really badly rusted, (part cost 340.00 without labor) So i told him not to fix anything cause the price than went up anywhere form 1200.00-1700.00 depends on how bad the corrosion is, should i Trade this sucker in, Or put in the money to have it fixed? 116k Miles, Heat also doesn't work, radiator leaks only in the spring/summer/fall, not sure why, The body is in MINT, No dings, Dents, All plastic repainted to match the body. Anyone looking for a Project 2wd jeep? lol

Not enough information.

We need the EXACT code number.

We need the EXACT part that the shop wants to replace.

Details are critical here............

If this were mine, first thing I would do would be to test the "throttle position sensor" an electrical part that is directly involved in transmission shifting characteristics.

But get us that code number. OBD is pretty darn good at pointing you in the right direction.

P0700 and P0705 can often be related to a faulty "neutral safety switch". They can often be refurbished to return full function. Worth a try before buying new. Here is a link.
