Another problem solved on my 1998 XJ thanks to you guys on this forum. It took less than an hour including soldering and heat shrink tubing to install the updated cluster plug.

When you pull the cluster there are actually two plugs, both ten prong. The one on the right, which is black, is the one you replace (the other one is green). The old female plug unclips and slides up. Give it a tug and you'll have enough slack to work with. The leads on the new plug are about 6" long. It's color coded (well sorta) so it's hard to go wrong. The plug was $12 from the dealer, they had one in stock. I put electrical grease on the connections before attaching the cluster.

When I put mine back together there was a new development...now I have a "full time" light on regardless of whether I'm in 4WD or not (I have Command-Trac). No big deal. I think I can just pull the cluster back off and remove that one light bulb and that oughta fix it.
