We bought and installed 2 new Monroe OESpectrum in the rear. It made a big difference! They ride a little stiffer but the rear axle feels much better controlled now. I just ordered two of the same for the front end.
The existing shocks were Monroes, but skinnier and blue (Monroe-Matic I think they're called). Neither was blown out, but they were pretty soft.
I was happy (and relieved!) that the mounting bolts all came out in one piece and were in good enough shape to reuse. I did start soaking them in Liquid Wrench a week or two before replacing the shocks.
It's a bit of a workout to keep the shock compressed while engaging the lower bushing all the way onto the stud while lying underneath the Jeep. I might try to tie them with wire next time.
