98 xj manual trans, shifter will not go into any gear

98 xj manual trans, shifter will not go into any gear
Had an issue this Friday, going up hill in 4th and tried to shift to 5th at top of hill, I could not get the shifter to go into gear. Pulled to side of road. I could not get shifter into any gear even with engine off and while rolling with clutch in or even when stopped. Seems like the shifter is not moving forks to get a gear no grinding at all. Anyone ever had this issue and if so what is the solution?

Yeah it happens on occasion. Pop open the fill plug, stick a screwdriver in and pop the reverse lockout towards the back of the vehicle. Please make sure your wheels are chocked.

Update.
Shop says they could not move the reverse shifter and want to rebuild my trans. They "said" they pulled the top off and still could not move it, I am very skeptical. Any advise?
