Default 98 xj rear axle torqueing

Ive noticed when I hit my brakes or on the throttle at a stop that I get o thud when stopping and going. ive rolled it back and forth in park and found that the rear axle torques up and down. And the leafs flex letting it torque. Any idea's that this could be my thud issue letting the drive shaft move the tranny ect..?

You should check the condition of your engine mounts.
With a friend standing at the side of the Jeep place the transmission in drive and press the brake pedal. Give a little gas and observe the motor position to see if the engine moves dramatically from side to side when the gas pedal is released. If it does; the engine mounts are bad and you should consider replacing the transmission mount at the same time.

The splines on the driveshaft are dry. Remove the shaft at the rear axle. Pull the rubber cover toward the trans. Take the shaft out of the transfercase. Lube the splines in the yoke and on the t-case. Use a high grade wheel bearing grease and reassemble. This will take care of the start and stop clunking.
