Plus changing out spiders is NBD. Just be careful removing that diff pin. Tight 6 pt. wrench. Round that head off and you got a problem.

Being a C-clip Dana 35, is this related to the wheel bearings or is there something else I should look at?

Here's a quick video I took:

I guess the plan will be to get the shafts out this weekend and see how the spiders look. Should I be able to spot play in the gears with the cover off?

I've managed to replicate the noise even with the wheels on the ground, here's a video:

My '98 with the C8.25 and a lunchbox locker (i.e. no spider gears) does the exact same thing. Mostly on the driver's side. At first I thought it might be loose lug nuts, but they're properly torqued. I guess I'll just not worry about it.

Does yours make that noise going over bumps too, or just when you grab the wheel like in the videos?

Just when I grab the top of the wheel and shake it back and forth.

I've finally had time now to get this stripped down. I've been wanting to replace the axle seals for months anyway so needed to get the shafts out.

Here's how the play looks with the diff cover removed. The clunk is much quieter without the drums on there, acting like an echo chamber.

Does this look about the amount of play you'd expect? It all looks pretty good in there to me but I'd like a second opinion!
