Default 98 XJ Right-side rear brake dragging

I've recently put some work into my 98 Cherokee including:

-Front brake pads and rotors
-Rear brake drums and shoes
-Replaced rear end with used rear end that was in great shape
-E-brake line retensioned

A few days after having the rear end swapped out and the other items done my right side rear wheel cylinder seized, so I replaced both sides. it drove beautifully for the first day, but while I was out driving today I noticed that as I would come to a complete stop and take my foot off the brake the car wouldnt idle forward. When i apply the gas i feel a small knock from the back and the brake that was stuck seems to move partly back into place, allowing the car to idle forward. However, I can hear from the right side the drum sounds like it still has some light pressure on, but it’s not a steady noise, it sounds like it drags more at a certain spot as the wheel turns. After driving a bit i turned the car off and felt both drums, the right side was warmer, making me feel like it’s only happening on the one side. when i start the car again, i can’t hear the brake dragging until I brake to a complete stop, at which point it starts again. Any suggestions on what may be causing this? I’ve read from previous posts that sometimes new drums need to be turned so the surface is a perfect circle, or is this just wishful thinking for an easy fix?

A new drum should not need to be turned. The mostly likely culprit is getting the shoes on incorrectly. The leading and trailing shoes are not interchangeable. I suggest you double check that first.

Also, if you got any brake fluid or oil of any kind (like from grease on your hands) onto the brake shoe material, it will cause major problems. You can try cleaning it with brake cleaner, but it rarely does a good enough job. The only sure cure is replacement with new.
