Default 98 xj tilt column return spring

I have 1998 XJ with a tilt column and some time ago there was a loud pop sound while I was driving and found that the tilt column would no longer return without out manually lifting it. The lever and tilt function still work, just has no return spring assist. I recently removed the lower dash panel and found the big spring that provides the assist (I assume) and it doesn't appear broken that I can tell. Is this common? Any availability of a diagram through here so I can possibly reinstall it? Thanks for any all information!
I've tried searching the forum for something to his effect, but didn't find anything . . . or I'm just really bad at using the search field.

No, I actually watched that first hoping it would, but he's working on the other side of the column. Thanks for the response though!

Just kept looking at the column and the way it tilts until I located anchor points on the passenger side of the column that made sense. One of them being an eye stud on the side of the column, and then matched up the length of the spring until I found a small horizontal steel bar in the underside of the dash above the column that would accept the hook end of the spring. Took a bit to struggle the other end in to the eye stud with a set of long angled needle nose pliers, but once set I have my assisted tilt return again! Not bad, since I was just doing a cluster repair and then decided to investigate while I was in the area . . . It's the little things in life!

Yeah, about that! That's why people buy the GRAND Cherokee, for all the bells and whistles! Then they get upset when they don't work. After years of driving baffed-out Chevy trucks, you learn to do without stuff quickly. One thing I am going to add to my XJ is an LED in the console so I can find my cup holder in the dark. Just a target to aim for. My WJ has cupholders crosswise in the console. My XJ has them fore & aft. Another thing I'm not used to yet is I keep reaching for the multifunction switch to turn on the lights like in my WJ instead of the dash switch in my XJ and visa versa.
