!986 Cherokee Help.
Ok, this is most likely to make me look like and idiot, but I need help.
I own a 1986 Jeep Cherokee 2.8L V6, Pics are in my profile, and the timing is out to lunch. At speed when shifting it will backfire, idles a bit rough, you know the drill.
I know where the distributor cap is, I have managed to clear a bunch of the crap out of the way, but I cannot find the nut/bolt to loosen to adjust it. I found one, I'll post a picture of it, and I can loosen it, but when I did it did not allow for any movement.
Perhaps I need to remove said bolt?
The first pic is of the bolt beneath the distributor.
The second pic shows the location a bit better

I'm not an expert with the older (or newer..lol) Cherokees but I don't think they are adjustable. I believe they are all computer controlled but I'm sure someone else will chime in soon on this...Tj

It's adjustable. There should be a retainer clamp at the base of the dizzy, with a bolt holding it down. You should be able to loosen the bolt, and rotate the dizzy. If you still can't, there is a good chance that it has seized in place. If your unable to move it, don't force it, it's only aluminum, and will break. Just be as careful as you can with it. I'm not real familiar with the V-6, but I'm sure it is just like every other dizzy I have dealt with. If someone knows more, please fill in the blanks, or correct my misguidance!! HTH!!

Well, Problem solved, and problem found.
I got the distributor to pivot, thanks to you guys, I really appreciate it.
I found a dead mouse tucked up in my throttle, so... yeah.
Turns out the muffler has a gash of sorts on the top (thanks Mike37)
Runs alot smoother now.
