Well, no one seems worried about the switch to synthetic, so I think I'll ride it out and see how it behaves. I have been wanting to do the valve cover seal for a while, will be my first time opening it up. Anything I should be looking for while it's open? Think I may try the MMO trick mentioned above while I'm in there.
I have never heard of Fluid Film, but as mine is just starting to rust, I'm very interested in that.

There's lots of info on Fluid Film out there on the web.

Don't know the specs but yea an FL-1A fits. Largest filter I know of that'll fit is a NAPA Gold 1459 or equivalent. I use around 6.25qts of oil with it.

No big deal. I knew Purolator made oil filters for Motorcraft but didn't know they are made to Ford specs. Wonder what that means for the Walmart brand Purolators?

If they're branded "Purolator", they are Purolator spec. The "Ford spec" usually doesn't mean a lot. For instance, some of them have a combination of a standard Purolator can with up-rated Purolator Pure One filter media, etc.
The only thing I'm aware of that Purolator does specifically for Motorcraft-only on some models is the thread-end bypass valve. That only comes into play in applications where the filters are mounted vertically, not the FL-1A which is mostly for older small block Ford applications that mount horizontally.

Not enough difference my butt!
I just googled both. I could have 2 1515's ($6.69ea) and a cheap 6pak for the price of 1 1459 ($16.99 for 1). My fault though cause I had my wife pick it up when she went to town. I'll go with the 1515 in about 4500miles.

Yeah, I noticed the difference in prices as I was looking up the specs. No way I'd pay the price for the 1459 but, hell, for I all I know you'd won the lottery Earl!
