I have never heard of Fluid Film, but as mine is just starting to rust, I'm very interested in that.
There's never any reason to be concerned about a switch from conventional to synthetic. I highly recommend the MMO procedure--it has worked for everyone I know that has tried it. There won't really be anything to look for... Although I did notice one of my valve stem seals had moved once (inside the spring), and I just pushed it back down into place.

There's lots of info on Fluid Film out there on the web.

I've been using the Napa 1515 filter which is bigger than usual. The Motorcraft FL- 1A fits the 4.0 motor and works? Has correct bypass or whatever inside?

Don't know the specs but yea an FL-1A fits. Largest filter I know of that'll fit is a NAPA Gold 1459 or equivalent. I use around 6.25qts of oil with it.

Yes. The list below are all FL1A equivalents. Pick your poison. It appears that you already have with the Napa 1515 . I just tend to buy Motorcraft because I'm a long-time Ford guy and they fit the 289 in my '67 Bronco. Anything made by Purolator or Wix are good. The FL1A is Purolator and Napa 1515 is a Wix.

No big deal. I knew Purolator made oil filters for Motorcraft but didn't know they are made to Ford specs. Wonder what that means for the Walmart brand Purolators?

If they're branded "Purolator", they are Purolator spec. The "Ford spec" usually doesn't mean a lot. For instance, some of them have a combination of a standard Purolator can with up-rated Purolator Pure One filter media, etc.

The only thing I'm aware of that Purolator does specifically for Motorcraft-only on some models is the thread-end bypass valve. That only comes into play in applications where the filters are mounted vertically, not the FL-1A which is mostly for older small block Ford applications that mount horizontally.

You might want to reconsider the 1515. The 1549 has a lower PSI spec on the bypass valve. Probably not a huge issue though, minimum PSI is only off by 1.

Wix 51515 and NAPA 1515 Filters
-height 5.178"
-diameter 3.660"
-thread 3/4 16
-bypass valve setting 8-11psi
-anti drain back valve- Yes
-flow rate 7-9 GPM
-nominal micron rating 21"

Wix 51459 and NAPA 1459 Filters
-height 7.010"
-diameter 3.694"
-thread 3/4 16
-bypass valve setting 7-9psi
-anti drain back valve- Yes
-flow rate 7-9 GPM
-nominal micron rating 25"

EDIT:
Meh, nevermind... not enough difference to worry about.

Not enough difference my butt!
I just googled both. I could have 2 1515's ($6.69ea) and a cheap 6pak for the price of 1 1459 ($16.99 for 1). My fault though cause I had my wife pick it up when she went to town. I'll go with the 1515 in about 4500miles.

Yeah, I noticed the difference in prices as I was looking up the specs. No way I'd pay the price for the 1459 but, hell, for I all I know you'd won the lottery Earl!

I sure wouldn't be buying cheap 6paks if I did it hit it. Or be buying 1459's! LOL
