I have a 99 cherokee 4.0 with the aw4 trans and np242 transfer.where to start.the trans was burnt and whining a little over year ago when we got it.we ran it until the whin died out and ran surprisingly well until abour aweek ago.started show signs such as bucking so often and more frequent and started making a rattling noise.okay ready.i had a 94 aw4 that i knew was good and worked.so i swapped internals and valve body.i only used the 99 casing,and output shaft due too 94 missing a front sensor hole by bell housing and a different pick up on output shaft for sensor.everything looked identical,both tore down the same minus year/wiring changes and diffenent sized solenoids.i did all this myself for first time so please bare with me.so one question would be are the 94 and 99 valve bodys the same.r there any adjustments other then the cable.during cold starts it will go in reverse and spin wheels along with forward.once it seems to warm up i loose reverse almost alltogether.im at a loss.fluid is good.solenoids test fine.every gear shifts but once warmed not the best.please help.
