if its just cranking over it wont necessarily be spinning fast since the engine isnt running, your only cranking it over, which isnt the fastest thing in the world either, but at the same time, it could be a bent distributor housing as well, pull it, spin it, if its got a wobble its probably bad, price out a new one NOT REBUILT you will just run into problems with those if its cost effective replace it, did you check for the spark out of the coil tho?

Yeah, we did after we replaced the older one, but we were only getting a very weak voltage.
The highest we got was like 9v...something tells me thats wrong...but if its not, let me know

ok. are you working on a '99, or an '89, or an '87?
either of those ways, you do NOT ground the end of the spark plug out to the block. you ground out the thread surface of the plug to test for spark. you NEED 2 people to do this.
if it's a '99, is it a 5 speed or an automatic?
if no spark, and new CPS, chances are 50/50 that the CPS is bad anyways, but more likely your cam sensor could be bad (distributor cap and rotor could be bad, too). the next likely part is a bad ECU.

i dont know what the resistance should be/voltage should be, its like a 10 dollar part at napa its a small white thing bolted to the engine bay with two wires going into it, check that. again, its above the airbox

That is correct.
XJs picked this up for some parts to swap out with his own since he actually off roads. I am more into the tuner scene but I wanted a jeep for the winter and to actually get around when moving stuff (the G35 coupe just doesn't cut it.)
We're trying to bring this thing back to life and she's cranking but no spark. I was thinking of swapping the plugs and battery to test with at this point as the voltage coming off of the coil was between 6 and 9volts which to me sounds ridiculous low. Battery drops super low at crank as well.
Plugs were supposed to be new but from what I saw they are covered in oil at the tip and since this thing was sitting all winter I imagine the valve cover gasket is leaking and all this oil seeped onto the spark plugs.
Figure try both tonight/tomorrow and go from there.
