99 xi no bus code no start
Hey guys new member here. I'm sorry if this issue was already covered somewhere else. But this one has really got me stumped.
So I just picked up a 99 xj to replace my 97 grand Cherokee Laredo (yj? Or zj?) Which was falling apart under me. Noticed my battery wasn't charging so I figured it was bad. Swapped it for a known good battery. That didn't solve it. So I tested the alternator every damn way I know how. Passed all my tests but I know it can still be bad and pass the tests so I threw a new one in there. Still no charging. So I assumed voltage regulator. Cool no big deal, I just clipped the wires coming out of the harness on the alternator (solid green and green with an orange stripe) and hotwired it into the wide open position. Still nothing. So I, like the dumbass I am, went to connect the wires back together while it was running. Well, the wires slipped and both sets made contact and there was a spark. I know I'm stupid for not killing power first. It ran for about 3 more minutes and then shut off. I checked all the fuses in both the pannels but not the relays cause honestly i dont know how to test those. Now when I try to start it, it cranks but won't turn over and when I let go of the key and its in the on but not the start position after about 30 seconds no bus appears in the odometer area and my check engine light comes on. Edit: codes shown are p0443 evap purge solenoid circut and p0705 trans range sensor circut. Same codes are shown no matter which pcm i have installed. Figured i fried the pcm so i went and pulled one from a 2000 xj with the same motor and trans and similar mileage which according to reading I've done on here and other jeep forums should run the same. Still can't get her started and I have to get her running soon. What else might I have fried? I've checked everything I can think of. Should I change the alternator again? Is it the pcm ? Maybe a fusible link somewhere or a relay? Please help me!
