99 xj transmission in and out
hola peoples, question.
99+ xj 137k stock
my belt started ripping on the road one day cut it off drove straight home ( not sure if this matters but it all happened after)
as i pulled up to my house the transmission felt powerless (possibly went into limp mode)
i changed the belt then my problems started as i drove it.
at first all gears work, a couple minutes later felt like it was stuck in 3rd then nothing it wouldn''t move and heard a buzzing sound by transmission
turn key off turn key on all gears work again for like 1.30 to 2 minutes
what i noticed:
pulled dipstick and trans is overfilled a bit and the buzzing sound no engine codes at all. (checked it in neutral and park as well)
Any idea whats wrong with my Hoe lol

the transmission fluid looked normal? and your coolant looks normal? i am asking in case your radiator broke internally and mixed the two fluids as that would cause your transmission to fail in the way you are describing.
was your transmission always slightly over filled? if not, that would be from coolant and transmission fluid mixing, too

Does it go into first if you put the shifter into (1-2)? The usual check to verify whether the problem is mechanical or electrical is pulling the fuse to the trans computer and shifting manually with the shifter. There is no limp mode for the trans, btw. This sounds like typical symptoms for a bad #1 shift solenoid or damage wiring to the solenoid (no #1 solenoid results in trying to start in 4th gear). Maybe the buzzing you heard was a solenoid chattering, but usually they just stop working altogether or when they get warm. The first step would be to open up the connector in the wiring harness and measure the solenoid resistances. They should be 11-16 ohms resistance.

no it looked significantly more when i pulled it out to check. i felt it was watery n a bit brownish like when a liquid heats up. although that rad is newer like maybe 5 months ago it was changed that could be a possibility.. how the hell would you check? i never had that scenario happpen to me and i had 7 xj z through out my life .

in your radiator, the coolant is clean? nothing stuck under the radiator cap?
with a new radiator, its probably not mixing coolant but best to check.
what are the signs of a bad torque converter?

im not going to go crazee im going to check those solenoids like lawson suggested look at fuses and wiring if i cant find anything off to my mechanic it goes and at that point I'm praying its the transmission so i can get one for cheap and let um throw it in since i have barely any rust on it and low mileage its worth it all day for me.
