? about guage swap ( oil and temp senders)
NEWB here.
Just traded my 91 toyota mr2 for a 96 XJ 4.0 HO 130K.
Have a question regarding the two senders needed to purchase
( oil and temp).
Are the new senders specific to the year of the vehicle (96) or to the cluster ( 91-96)?
OEM PART #'s?
I've read the walk through DIY guides posted but no one points it out.
Just want to make sure I'm buying the right senders.
Btw, SO DAMN HAPPY WITH MY CHEROKEE...JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR MY NEXT PAY CHECK TO GET HER LIFTED A BIT.
Great forum you have here too.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

my understanding is the 91-96 model years are compatible. I still don't have my oil gauge working. every thing else is Aok.

yeah, I have that cluster (91-96) and am hoping to do the swap soon.
So more or less, replacing the senders which worked for the UGLY cluster is to allow the new cluster gauges to function properly?
Just want to be sure.

there is a great thread on this.......it's back 3-4 pages. look for it. called gauge swap or something like that. I'm bummed that the oil press isn't working for me. I may go pull the other one at the junk yard monday just to be sure it is not the gauge itself that is bad. My donor was a '92 the other one at the JY is a 96 i think. key info : '91 -'96 are compatable. a note, If you remove that bracket above the water temp sender & then use a swivel on your scocket it will make life easer.
