Default About to hit 250k. Time for a tuneup.

I’m about 800 miles from 250k. Everything is running great. Cooling system is brand new and keeping up. Suspension, steering, bushings almost new. Diffs and trannys flushed and fresh. New brakes all around. New hubs, u joints. I have not really touched the engine except for oil changes and filters. Thinking I should probably do a tuneup. Maybe I can get a little better gas mileage than 14mpg. Haha.

planning on.
new spark plugs
new coil
new oxygen sensors
new air filter
clean throttle body and sensors.

anything else y’all would recommend at this mileage?

I am surprised it runs at all with a quarter million miles on the ignition parts. Lets see photos of those plugs when you remove them please, that will be of interest. The gap must be huge.

Ohm test those spark wires. if high, replace.

Fuel filter?

fuel hoses maybe ready to fail.

Serpentine belt should be replaced, inspect idler pulley when belt removed, check for excess play or roughness in turning idler pulley.

check fan clutch for operation.

fuel injector cleaner should be ran thru system. I use chevron brand injector cleaner, one bottle in the fuel tank every year or so.

Your O2 sensor may normally last 50 to 80K miles. You exceeded that by at least three times!

got through the plugs and coil today. The gap on the old plugs was .05 to .06 ish. I was definitely missing out on some power. Haha I think the plugs may have been changed when I blew a head gasket at like 75k. They were motor craft. Which I understand stock was champion. I’ll dig them out of the trash and get a photo tomorrow.
the coil came out hard. All the boots came off and I had to pull them off the plugs piece by piece with a needle nose.

Still ran great other than a very intermittent misfire on 1 and 6 when idling for a while. And sometimes a rough start when the engine was already hot.

belt is new. I also keep a spare.

fan clutch is in good shape.

I did get both o2 sensors. Hopefully get to those tomorrow.
