Default ABS Tone Ring Install

I've got a new axle shaft and new ABS Tone Rings. Is installing the ring on the axle stub a grease and pound on situation or something else? Do you heat up the ring to expand it so it fits on the stub?

Pictures of the old and new shafts and rings

I just pressed mine on with no other effort required! Mine went on nicely. I'd imagine yours would be even easier with that nice new stub!

Just be careful not to damage the teeth. I accidentally flattened a couple of teeth just the tiniest bit, and it's enough to trigger my ABS randomly at low speeds.

Thanks! I tried pressing it on by hand, but honestly didn't try too hard. I'll see if I can get on with a bit more persuasion.

Yeah, the old tone ring was partially melted (several teeth deformed) onto the hub and I believe that was causing the intermittent ABS Light for me as well

I got it on there but had to use a little more persuasion than I wanted to. I greased the ring and stub up and beat it on in a circular pattern to try to get it on evenly. Do you think I beat it up too bad?

One problem is that the ring catches ever so slightly on the axle in some extreme flex of the U-joints. It's a very small catch, but I'm thinking of taking a file to the ring or shaft and taking a tiny bit of material off. FWIW, the ring is an OMIX brand and the axle shaft and stub are Yukon.

That looks great from here, I can't see any damage!
Don't worry about the catch at full flex - remember that you have steering stops on the knuckles, so the U-joint will never flex that far once installed.
