Hey all,

I just recently bought a 1999 XJ Sport, charged the AC, noticed a freeon leak under my glove box. After about a week or so, my AC is now blowing hot. I took the jeep to a mechanic who told me my evaporator core was shot, and that replacing it would be $1100. I know the part only runs $200, and I know the job is a time consuming, hang banging against the wall task, but with 98 degree weather and a free weekend I believe I can do it. I've been searching for forum posts/guides on specific directions on how to go about this efficiently, but have had no luck in finding something that hadn't been removed.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide to walk me through this process?

Advance auto sells the core for $109 or so. There are LOTS of writeups on how to do it yourself. Plan a weekend project. Seems fairly straightforward and mostly time consuming. Thats where the $1000 quote came in. It's all labor.

 

Change the heater core while you're in there.
