AC FAN wiring
alright so i have my 3 way switch wired and now i want actually connect it to power my fan
in the center position it will be off. in the down position it will in normal operation mode. in the up position it will be manual on.
so far here is how i am thinking of wiring it...
the center prong on the switch is constant battery power on (12 ga wire) the down terminal is 12 ga wire out, i want to pop the underhood relay box open and substitute the power coming from the factory harness with the power coming off the switch to power the relay like it would work from the factory.
What i am wondering is, do i need another relay to power the AC fan manually or can i just splice into the AC fan to give it a 12 volt constant turing it on? This would be the up position of the switch which also has a 12 ga wire out.

which fan are you using? Hi/Lo fan replacing manual fan? if so there will still need to be a relay on the low setting also. maybe use the ignition for the low setting and temp control for the high? Just my thoughts.

It is a blue wire with an orange strip thru it that you can slice into to control the relay and "manually" run it.

Alright so i followed this diagram and wired it up this morning! Took a little trial and error however it does indeed work! when the jeep is on or even off i can manually turn it on. When the jeep is on and the AC is on i can manually turn it off (this works more for when the fan stays running even after the jeep is turned off....) And then i can flip the switch in the down position and et it run on auto mode.
While idling i let it sit about half an hour. and what do you know. with the ac off and the fan on it stayed about 198*-just a tad below 200* and its already 100* outside!

I hope you used some fuses in that set-up.
I did something kinda similar with my taurus fan but i hooked it up to the ignition/accessory switch so i wouldnt accidentally kill the battery. If i want to run it off with the jeep off i just turn the keys back

THe only thing that i fused was the 12v going into the switch, Other than that all i did was split the factory signal wire to the relay, which already has a fuse.

Yea thats what i would of done. I have 2 switchs, on-off-on and on-off, with 5 fuses for the switches and relays. I also have a 30amp circuit breaker for my taurus fan high setting cause I though i would try something new and hopefully wouldn't keep blowing relays and fuses.

Yeah the next thing i am going to get is another electric fan. It too will be wired the exact same way. On a 3 way switch and a lower temp sending unit. I really like the idea of not having to worry about it but being able to run it manually if need be.
I heard the tarus fans are electric hogs, is the upgraded alt needed to run both electric fans? if so i know where i am headed tomorrow its $40 for fan, relay's, and temp switch- complete assembly. I might be able to drop him down to $30 for just the fan tho...

I run the low taurus speed whenever the jeep is on to help with the summer heat and in winter its hooked up to a thermo switch to help warm up the jeep. The aux fan never comes on anymore and not having a mech fan improves throttle response. As for a large draw, I see the voltage gauge move just alittle bit on low speed and alittle more of a drop on high. I dont use high, keep popping relays, and i dont have any offroad lights or whatnot.

Alright, I think that answers my question haha.
I have a sound system, 4 HID simulate 100 watt roof lights, 2 HID simulate 100 watt reverse lights, high intensity head lights and in AZ i like my ac to be on.... Hmmm time for an upgraded, upgraded alt if i go double electrics. I am not to worried about throttle response, got plenty of it-more is always nice, but this set up works right now.
