Default AC help

so i recently had another electrical fire within the XJ's engine bay. this time it effected my AC system and im kind of an AC noob. so here's my description of the symptoms.

the hose that comes from the receiver and runs to the expansion valve is burnt in 3 different areas and im assuming there's r12 left in the system due to only getting hot air to blow. and i dont hear my compressor clutch clicking over when i hit the switch and my electrical fan doesnt turn on anymore. so what im thinking is; the frion leaked through the hose after it was burnt and my compressor clutch wont run because there is no freon which without a compressor running, the electrical fan wont turn on when the AC is switched on?
so all i would need to do is replace that hose and get it recharged and everything should work again? or am i wrong?

theoretically, yes if thats the only hose damaged. The a/c system has a low pressure cut out switch. So it see no pressure, so it will not engage the a/c clutch to protect it since running on low freon and damage it.

another electrical fire,? just the fact that you have survived one is impressive. to answer youre question depending on the severity of the fire. you could be ok just replacing the hose but if smoke and such entered the system (although if it was pressureized it shouldnt have, and refrigerant due to its lack of oxygen is a fire extinguisher, however it produces fosgene(sp*) gas (mustard gas) when exposed to flame) but probably ok to just do the hose

thanks for the quick response guys, i completely forgot that the system will still have to be evacuated, but now i know that that hose is the problem and no shop should be able to tell me how much more needs replacing.

the fire wasnt too bad, it was just one wire, which has now been fused and replaced and hasnt had an issue.
