Accident, to fix or let go?
So my stepson his mom and myself went in a 2001 xj for him for his 18th and graduation. He had it for 2 months and was in a no fault accident Sunday morning and will most likely be totaled because the airbags deployed.
We paid $3500, very good shape. I am discussing with the insurance adjuster on a buy back. He is telling me $150-200.
I think it will be worth a try as a salvage. I am a junk yard frequenter and love to work on these xj's. There are always a load of XJ's in the jy's I frequent. I have 3 pull n pays close.
From the looks of it what do you guys think? No knocks, 150,000 miles, body was perfect. What would be a deal breaker, obviously uni body damage is most likely a deal breaker?
Before, runs like a top. Paid $3500 cash.

It looks fixable but, like you said, uniframe rail damage is the deal breaker here. If you could get replacement airbags for a decent price at the p+p you could probably get out of it relatively cheaply. If you do get it back I would begin by checking the alignment. That will be a good indicator of whether it's tweaked or not.

As xjunlimited had said make sure it's not tweaked. You can definitely make an awesome trail rig project out of it. You can build it as hardcore as you really want an never have to worry about the drivability factor. The issue I see is there will be an exponential amount of work ahead of you. But if it's relative rust free you have an awesome platform to work off of minus the bad heads in those years. And when your done you can always go for a rebuilt title status through the dmv

Looks like the impact did not go back as far as right front wheel. The suggestion to have alignment checked is a good one. If good, then it looks like a bit of junkyard bodywork and airbag, and some time in a paint shop and you will be good to go.

Looks like the insurance company is going to pay $5100 and give it back for $200 so I am going to go ahead and fix it. Will let you know how it goes.
Looks like it might need a little bit of core support work but I have a body guy who does good work for a reasonable price, friend of a friend.
Thanks for the advice.

Damn Toyotas! Glad you could buy it back. And good that they're giving you that amount as well. Hopefully if I ever get into that situation my insurance would work with me so I could buy it back if it wasn't that bad. Call me crazy but I still have full coverage on it and it's paid off. Not sure how many people do that now a days.

Geico has been very cool through this. They are even going to take the $200 right out of the payoff check and tow it to my driveway.
I know they will recoup as much as they can in the end but they are going to either way so...

Got her all tore down. Found a body guy, friend of a friend, talking $800-1000 depending on color of parts I find and paint. Said the apron is going to take some time to get straight. I plan to do the under hood mechanical myself. Might have $1500 into after it is all said and done. Good extra car.

Not sure if you're gonna want the fenders on it still but if you do, I have a full set of fenders off mine in that same color if you'd be interested in them. Also have a color matched front bumper. PM me if you want them.

Was hit in the front AND rear.
A few trips to the junkyard and it's back on the road and running fine.
