Adding a transmission cooler to a stock 96 XJ
I started to add a transmission cooler to the old XJ last year and after installing the cooler and lines I stopped short of connecting the lines to the transmission. Here's what I have now...cooler installed in front of the belt fan and lines.
Can someone remind me...how do I go about attaching these lines to my transmission, to where, and what adapters do I need to make the connection?
Thanks

the tranny line to the lower radiator fitting remains the same ..thats the inlet line to the cooler. The top line/ output goes to the lower port on your aux cooler and then the top line on the aux goes back to the tranny. I think I just cut the rubber portion of the tranny line to the top radiator fitting and used a hose barb to connect the radiator side of that hose to the lower aux fitting and the return from the aux goes into the half of the tranny line back to the tranny. The hard part was smoothly fitting the new cooler lines past the radiator and over the steering box around the aux fan. keeping the hoses short as practical.. I think I used 3/8 fuel line. but I will check later. There is not much pressure in there. Run it for an hour or so and then recheck tranny fluid level. Will try and get some pictures

I did a cooler bypassed the radiator entirely on my zj. I think they do clog up. So what you want to watch out for whatever you do, is just using small hose clamps for rubber hose to metal line connections. I lost 7 of 12 quarts of ATF+4 in my driveway and down the road 3 blocks to the light she wouldn’t move. Nightmare on elm street.
anyway I filled her back up and seems fine now . Also power washed the driveway with degreaser about 5 times, still shows. Same for the city streets to the light.

I can't recall its name, I got it either at the hardware or auto parts store, you just dust it on (heavily) and nature does the rest. It works
Cat litter also works, but not nearly so good, the special stuff has chemicals in it
Also at the OP, if yr XJ ever experiences hot weather or tows, fit an auto trans temp gauge in the T55 port, best mod I ever done $30

Yep I didn’t mention the kitty litter, 25 lbs of it. It’s pavement, not concrete. Thx for the tip anyway
