advice please eng/trans remanufacture
Greetings,
I am new to the forum so I will do some searching. I am just liking to get pointed in the right direction. I just picked up a 2001 XJ RHD. It has low oil pressure and I believe the front pump seal is leaking on the tranny. So I am thinking it needs a re-manufactured engine and a re-manufactured transmission. Can yall point me in the right direction to a reputable company to purchase both? Do any companies out there sell them as a combo at a discounted price? Thanks for the advice!

Before you jump into spending that much money I'd first try switching oils to improve oil pressure and second confirm that the front seal is what is leaking. If you do need a transmission I'd probably look at getting yours rebuilt by a local transmission shop. How many miles does the Jeep have on it?

Confirm that you really do have low oil pressure with a mechanical guage. What is the pressure at idle versus cruising rpm? The front seal on the trans is easy to replace, but you do have to pull the transmission. I'd consider swapping in a good used transmission instead of rebuilding your, which I don't think it needs for a simple oil seal leak though.

The Jeep has 160k. The oil pressure has been verified with a mechanical gauge. 7psi at idle when cold. It really drops off when warm. It does increase with RPM but is only about 1psi per 1k rpm.

I would try running a 40 or 50 weight oil. Maybe start with 15w-40 but I don't know what type of climate you're in.
What sort of condition is the body in? If it's really rough it might not be worth dumping money into for a new motor.

My climate is Mid Atlantic. The body is in ok condition. Underneath is pretty rusty. I would totally just move on from this thing but the wife needs a RHD for work. There are not many in my area
