Bit out of my league here but wanted to share; Wires prone to shorting and blowing the fuse for your ASD relay are the wires to the 02 sensors. The front is near the hella hot exhaust manifold, the rear is long and somewhat vulnerable to lots of things, pinching, rubbing on the drive-line, you name it. I thought it might be a small mini-fuse.
Renix Jeeps don't suffer this indignity. (no "Auto Shutdown Relay") But yea, a bunch of our sensors use a 5v feed from the Puter, which I guess is shared so say, your rear 02 sensor shorts, your CPS/ and all might go with it.
The Renix two wire CPS is about that, a clever magnet. A "hall effect transducer". Just generates an AC signal. Your CPS is more complicated, involving a 5V feed from your PCM. (that it might not get if say, a rear o2 sensor wire is shorting)

HHhhhmmm.. THIS IS THE FIRST MENTION THAT I'VE READ OF THE WIRE ROUTING FOR THE ASD. Didn't see it in the flow charts/schematics in the manual..
I just don't understand why info/stuff like this ISNT a sticky. I mean, just google: "Jeep turns over not starting" or "Jeep just died" and you find out that it boils down to this dang relay or CPS sensors.. HUNDREDS pages of threads/angry folks.
Dflintstone; I really appreciate the input but I just can't go back now. If it dies again from this I might burn the whole thing. (plus, this is what I decided before I actually picked it up. "Cobra Marty's" supercharged one was a tipping point, and aGREAT source of info)
I'll try and start a thread of MY doing. I kinda have low patients for ignorant flamers.
(I've got kids and don't need more to raise..)
BUT, if there's GOOD info like welding tips, or fabrication experience or "hey, I've used _____ and it worked for my application.
Well that's another thing totally.
Thanks again guys n gals(if any)
P.S.-- I'll take a look-see if any 02 wires were damaged as I pull it. (I'm NOT going to tell "her". Otherwise I'll get the 80million questions of: "why didn't you ______")
IT'S GONNA BE A v8 AND A STICK BY GOD!!

Well, fixed MY situation but the cherokee is slated for the V8 magnum swap and FI Tech fuel injection.
Soon I will be OVER AND DONE with the JEEP wiring silliness..
Replacement is a '95 Chevy 2500 350/nv4500 2wd
(that surprisingly gets about the same mileage as the Black 96 Cherokee.. Hhhmmmm.)

LOL idk about you but I've had a vortec SBC and it was a complete dog. And IIRC the vortec series is to tall to fit under the hood of a cherokee? I'm not 100% on that. I would prefer to have a 4.0 over that hunk of junk though. Go LS-power to make it worth your time.
I've read and seen that they already fit
In addition, it's the LS series GM motors that DON"T FIT the Cherokee engine bay without $$$. Notwithstanding a whole LS swap is JUST TOO DARN EXPENSIVE FOR ME! I just don't understand when people say that they purchase complete, LOW MILEAGE, RUNNING motors for 500 or so. I NEVER have seen them around me for anything under 800.00 and that's for a rebuild able core! Then JUST THE FREAKIN F-body OR Corvette intake (alone is anywhere from 300 on up) not including all the other stuff to make that work. (usually if the peeps are honest, around 3500-5000!)
I picked up the 5.2 for about 180.00 from a pull it and freshened it up with rings and bearings but splurged on the heads with EQ Performance replacements and decked the block to raise compression. (about 850.00)
The Trans and flywheel assy with drive shaft was around 200. Block hugger, shorty headers was about 150.00. Carb'd Intake was about 140.00 shipped.
Look into the F.I. Tech fuel injection.. Entry level (under 400hp) is only around 800!! THAT'S A 4 WIRE HOOK UP, FUEL LINES AND YOUR PRETTY MUCH RUNNING!! (and a friend at work has one running twin turbo's through it without a hickup..! look for them on Youtube)
Going to use a 92-94 instrument cluster and be able to use the stock gauges to keep tabs on motor.
So all this crap engineering that Jeep imposed on buyers will be G O N E from my worries, not having to be concerned about a CPS, ASD or whatever else that can go out for ANY reason (or no reason) leaving one stranded. (like me 2x..)

I don't understand how doing a complete swap is easier than actually fixing whatever the problem is with your jeep. I'm sure if it was truly a poor design imposed on consumers by evil engineers, then the XJ wouldn't have been so popular or successful as it was/is.

Oh, it's NOT easier in the sense of actual work. It's the peace of mind knowing that I eliminated the CPS, ASD that can go out for any reason or less like has been stated.
Also, The 4cyl was only supposed to get me back and forth to work as a daily until I could get the 5.2 in there.
That was the game plan from the onset. (NO offense given to anyone.
Like I've stated that through searching through hundreds of threads of Jeep owners that have run into the same conditions.
Look up the FI Tech injection.. Hope to order one in the next couple weeks.

Haven't had the time to search as of yet. Just tons of stuff going on.
The "fix" was to use another vehicle.
Long story.. The comanche that I was using after the 96 died 2x, had somehow rolled (on flat ground) down to my drive way (which is a fairly tall hill) about 150' and smashed into some trees totalling it. Rendering me without wheels, so I had to get the 2500 truck.
Like I said.. TONS of stuff going on.
