That's a nice rack lol. A lot of mounting options. Messing up the paint is the only downside I've heard of with the gutters mounts. That is just a cover on the gutter so you can replace it if you ever need to.

Do you think the bigger size will work on a stock XJ (no lift)? Was there a specific reason you got these bigger ones over what I think is the stock size of 225?

Thanks!
235s worked just fine under my 99 before I give her a mild life.. nothing was rubbing at stock height. And I think with my mild couple inch lift still look decent and work well. And being fairly popular size for light trucks and suv's you've got the availability and competitive pricing...so that's a plus....and not so big you have to worry about re-gearing.

Just to chime in here.. 235/75R15 is absolutely the consensus size for stock XJ tires (I know you've already pulled the trigger on this, so just for future googlers). Folks will always fight over the specific brand that is "best". For reference, the "best" can vary depending on your environment - the average temperature, weather conditions (lots of direct sunlight, snow, rain) vary widely, so bear that in mind when considering options. I have heard that the stock size 16" wheel from a Jeep Liberty will work just fine on an XJ, but I haven't tried it personally.

The best set of tires I ever had were a set of Michelin's (though I don't remember the specific model - they discontinued them, so it's irrelevant) on my Jeep TJ after the factory set of Goodyear wore out. Size was 30.5x9.5R15 Tires were warrantied at 80k, I got 110k of great performance out of them before they (evenly) wore out. The Goodyears and BFGoodrich that followed paled in comparison. I got them as a gift so I expect that my parents paid for what I got...

Kumho ATs. The best kept secret in Jeeping. Try 'em, you'll like 'em!

I put their 3 season passenger tires on my wif'e's Sienna, and we LOVE them. Fabulous!

I put the ATs on my WJ, and I love them. My son just put them on his SportTrac, and what a great difference.... My other son just bought an Escape with the HT version on them. Again, we really like them.

These things are great!

yeah... kumho does make a pretty good tire at a fairly reasonable price compared to the competition. I'd get a lot of crap for the 235s currently on my XJ...but dont care, they are cheap, I've used them in all kinds of conditions, and even with an ancient tread design, I've never had any issues... I'll probably opt for something different when these wear out...but heck... they were brand new when I got the Jeep so I figured... run'em...and if they were crap... swap them out... so far not bad....almost 4 years on.

They handle way better than my Grabbers did! I guess I'll find out this winter how they do on snow. If they are as good as what I put on my van, they are going to be great.

**whispering**....goodyear wranglers... tread design from the Roman Empire era as they may be... they are cheap, and have worked well for me for what they are... I've only gotten out to mild trails here since I moved and have done well. I was honestly impressed with how well they worked in the down pour rains here in the south... From the design you wouldn't think they would channel water out worth a darn...but no hydro-planing here yet. I don't drive like an idiot either...but still I was impressed.
Do think I will get something better next time, but I can't complain for the price of them. And they do have a little of that blocky old school military-esk style. Which is fitting for an old Jeep if you ask me

I've never looked at those but they do have some good reviews. I do get my tires from tirebuyer. They have a distribution center in Denver so normally free next day delivery.

I got to drive my son's SportTrac today pulling a heavy trailer. Those Kumho ATs were great. With the COVID, I haven't been doing a lot of driving lately, but I got the Grand out the other day and gave it a workout. Took my favorite S turn a lot faster than I could with my Grabbers.

A serious off-roader might laugh at them, but for me... well, I don't plan to even look at another brand. These are so much better than I'd be wasting my time.

A little late to the party, but....you can't just claim the Khumo AT's are the best (which they ARE) without showing 'em off!!

I'm on my second set. First set went on in 2011, came off in decent condition in 2019 to be replaced with the currently available AT51s.
