Default Alternator replacement question

Q:
Could I use a Bosch type alternator as replacement instead of the Denso?
Or does that type (Bosch) have an internal voltage regulator?

What's the difference between the two types?
Athough simple question, can't seem to find a good answer regarding the XJ...

I understand that the voltage regulator function is controlled by the PCM so I wouldn't think an alternator that will fit your Jeep will include one.
I guess the difference will come down to construction and durability of each alternator that may be found in reviews of each if there is any.

There are a coupe different ways to control an alternator, so you have to be careful if trying to fit something else and control it by the PCM, or using an aftermarket external controller, but that's not your case...

If you're using an internal regulated, or an external regulator, you can use pretty much anything you physically attach with the pulley well enough aligned. You'll likely get a code from the PCM that the alternator has an issue, but I believe you can wire in a resistor, or something, to make that not happen. I'm sure the Internet knows...

The 87 - 90 Renix 4.0 models came with a Delco CS style, which are internally regulated...

Rockauto had a Bosch listed so I reckon that one is ok. The one I saw on ebay only said "this is a Bosch style alternator so check if suitable for vehicle " and listed elsewhere in the add that alt would fit the cherokee xj 84-01. Was an aftermarket brand, likely chinesium.

I put a bosch on my 99 a few years ago. I had to do some shaving on the bracket and a little bit on the block (IIRC). Was a bit fiddly but has been in for several years. Not sur eof you'll encounter that, but if you do, get out the angle grinder and go to work.

Could that be what they mean when saying Bosch-style? That the connectors/wiring is different?

Pics look all like my stock so I thought they might mean it's more to do with internally regulated as opposed to the NiponDenso stock PCM regulated ones.
