When you put the new one on BEFORE you mess with anything else we simply need to KNOW what is the output from the BACK of the ALT...you will need a Volt meter...Test lights are JUNK

im sorry about the delay..
i took it to the auto hobby shop on base...they ran a test using some cool machine which could measure electric pulses or some ****...anyway they said the alternator wasnt doing ****.
he looked at my battery cables and was lik they look beat up u should replace those(which i did)(and as a side note new battery cables dont come with a STOCK line long enough to reach the starter relay so i jerry riged 1)
and now im replacing the starter relay(just in case why not replace EVERYTHING!!!! muawawawaw)
if this fails im going to push my 600 dollar jeep off a cliff and pick up my other car
oo ya..tested the battery its reading 12.38 with the key off...
thanks for your help i should b posting again tommarow at 5 pm to c if this starter relay fixed it
battery is also brand new

Those RENIX starter motor relays are a pain - $40 a copy, and OEMR only.
I went through three of them one summer - the fourth time I had to replace it, I did some hard thinking, grabbed an old Bosch DIN relay out of my spares box, and wired that in instead. Haven't had trouble since. I left the OEM relay in place to handle distribution, but I'll get rid of it altogether one of these days.

Your Jeep forgot how to idle, after the battery died! Don't buy any more parts!
Hi, there may be nothing with your jeep. The computer forgot how to idle. As crazy as that sounds. I have this problem almost everytime my 1996 jeep grand cherokee 5.2 lt V8's battery dies. What you need to do is: Turn it on, then turn it off, then turn it on again rev the engine, then turn it off. Then turn it back on and keep your foot at a steady low idle for about 3 min. I know it seems ridiculous but it works, you must teach it how to idle again. Now if this dosnt work, your next option which has always worked for me, is drive it for a while, never letting off the gas. Its like driving stick with your jeep, you have to have the brake as well at the gas on when you stop otherwise it will die. I did this for 15 min today, just drove out a long road then I let off the gas to see if it would die, and it didnt. It had successfully reprogrammed the idle. I wouldnt recommend doing this around other traffic, because when if let off the gas on accident you will have to put it in nuetral and turn it back on real fast otherwise you loose your power sterring and brakes. A worker at my local jeep dealership told me about this, and its frequency in this type of jeep. Try it! I hope it works for you.
