Aluminum driveshaft?
I have no idea if this is even worth it, but is there any aluminum driveshafts out there for the XJ? I could really only find front driveshafts, not rear ones.
Reason i’m asking is because an aluminum driveshaft is lighter, and it would take less power to spin the rear wheels. I don’t do any off-roading, only off road I actually do is to get to my house. I doubt I would feel much difference, but i’m sure there’s something to gain from an aluminum driveshaft

Are three aluminum driveshafts. Yes. But I am not award of any with double cardan joints. People that are really serious about drag racing use them for the reasons you mentioned. But not cheap. I doubt the expense would be worth it, even when prorated over many years. Check Summit Racing for some examples

Not seeing much benefit for a Cherokee myself. If weight and rotating mass were really an issue, I'd focus on lighter rims and wheels first. Now if you really want to throw money at it, go carbon fiber!

I would suggest cow magnets might give you more of a performance gain than an aluminum driveshaft and they are readily available....at least where I live. And they would be a bunch cheaper.

After I brought up cow magnets I had the horrible thought that someone might take me seriously. For those who don't know back during the first gas shortage (73) it was all the rage...for some...to tape cow magnets to fuel lines to "align the fuel molecules" and increase mpg. I had thought it was long dead but a quick Google shows it isn't.
Also for those who don't know the real purpose of the magnets is that you feed a couple to a cow where they settle in the stomach to collect stray metal to keep it out of the gut.
I WAS KIDDING, THEY DON'T WORK! But maybe on a driveshaft........

I switched from steel to aluminum wheels on my Subaru. The power difference was huge. I cut 2.7 seconds off my time.
The time it takes me to drive from the Detroit area in Michigan to the Prescott area in Arizona.
