I guess I need more details before I can draw a conclusion.
If it's leaking inside then you need to swap it out.
If it's dripping on the ground from under the hood then I bet it has nothing to do with the heater core and all this bickering is pointless.
Does the heat actually WORK in the Jeep or have you tried?

And to the OP, a blocked Heater core shouldn't cause a leak. A leaking one will though. (Obviously )
And if you don't care about heat, then bypass it till ypu can afford to fix it

I would look up labor times on alldata if I was near the laptop. But 5-6 hours of work sound about right if I remember .
And at 95-100/hour... 700 isn't to far off when you include parts and fluid

Our shop book say at minimun 6 hours to replace the heater core. Even though a mechanic can do it in 2, he still gets paid for atleast 6. so with a new heater core and whatever his shop rate is, it very well could be a $700 job. But that may not be the problem.
But i do have all data here at the shop, so if you need anything, pm me.

Cherokees are the easiest car/trucks to work on. I just looked under hood, heater hoses go along valve cover and anybody can bypass them. you don't even need to buy a hose and clamps, just use old one. Look at hoses to see if they leak and look at drain hose coming from heater box to see if it leaks antifreeze.

There's no way that's a 700 dollar job.
You can bypass it for free. It won't cause one single problem.
Plus, if the heater core is clogged it would cause it to bypass thru the heater control valve anyways.
That guy is trying to get over on you. Go somewhere else.
Are you not capable of checking under the hood and seeing where the leak is coming from? This could be a five minute free fix...

Thanks all. I asked the garage how they knew the heater core was blocked. They said 'the pipes were bulging'. I asked them if they had tried to flush the heater core through. They said they would try. They flushed it, replaced a couple of hoses, and charged $150.
Please give me his details, if he's close to Painted Desert (Centennial) then I could use his help.
