Amber corner lights, front, not working
Just noticed recently that the front amber corner lights (next to head lights) on my 1996 XJ are not coming on under any switch position. All other lights working.
Since it is both, I am guessing the headlight/running light switch or a fuse. Have not started trying to track it down yet.
Any usual suspects for this? And if it is a fuse, what on earth would blow to fuse to a pair of lights?

Best bet is to grab the voltmeter and start checking. Start at the bulb sockets and see if you are getting power. Could be that both bulbs happened to blow close (timewise) to one another, before you noticed it.

Do they work on the ones below the headlamp? From the 95FSM all of the parking lights are fed by the same output of the headlight switch so my guess is the issue is more localised. They should also ground out in a way I have no idea about through the indicator circuit.

Yeah, they are wired in a funny way because they can get power from both directions. With the parking or headlights on, they ground thru the turn signal filament of the bulbs under the headlight. When you turn the signal on, they go off when the signal comes on and back on when the signal flashes off. With the signal filament on, the side marker lights get power from both directions, so don't light. I'd say your problem is in the source of power from the headlight switch.
Wait a minute. There are 2 separate bulbs under the headlight. The side marker light only grounds thru one of them. Make sure both of them are good bulbs. I think they ground thru the ones on the inside closest to the center of the grill.

The lights below the headlights work in all settings. They come on for running lights, turn signals, and for emergency flashers. All the lights except corner lights are working normally.

Okay, now I'm really confused! My park/turn lenses on my 2000 have 2 bulbs in them and both flash in turn mode. However, The side marker light flashes together with the turn signal when the parking lights are off, and alternately when the parking lights are on. There's smoke coming out of my brain! This means the marker light must be grounded at the headlight switch when the lights are off, but powered up when they are on. Can they make this any more confusing? With that said, I've got nothing for you. Sorry.

The earlier style uses a single twin filament bulb for the indicator/marker under the headlight. The same bulb used for the rear side/brake light.

Yeah, my rears are 3157. IDK what the fronts are.
According to Sylvania, they are also 3157s, but there are 2 in the front on each side.

Yeah, but! Mine are push-in spade bases on the 2000. Yours are probably bayonet bases on your 95. Our bulbs for your jeep are probably 1157 double contact bayonet bases. Sylvania's data base shows nothing for 380.
Okay, that's a Lucas number that corresponds with our 1157. Push-and-turn bayonet base. 1034 is an 1157 with less wattage. What a PITA!

Both 1996 factory bulbs were burned out. Factory ones burn out with that black shiny reflective coating inside bulb.
The sockets were corroded, green all over the inside metal. Plus, once you get a new bulb in there, it does not want to come out. Broke a new one (Sylvania 194). Dabbed some DeOxit (not the good one Applied Physics guys uses, the worthless competitor) that didn't appear to do anything. Filled the bases up right full of dielectric grease and still had to wiggle the bulbs around to get a still-iffy connection.
The screws that hold the lenses in are some metric close to 8x1 1/4, that Ace Hardware didn't have. Use 4 of their stainless 8 x 1 1/4 screws ($0.23 ea. US) which went in easier, but still snug, than the originals. I lost one of the originals so replaced them all. The heads were a little larger, but still domed and they still fit in the countersinks of the lenses fine.
Converting my Jeep from schmetric to American one fastener at a time.

What I do with corroded light sockets is I have a wire brush attachment I put in a drill. Spray a bit of contact cleaner in there and just clean. It does a great job of removing corrosion from contacts.
