I have this annoying whistling coming from my rear of my xj. Its only in the cabin . Its not the exhaust. It goes up in pitch as my rpms go up. Any ideas, because it is really driving me crazy.

Is it a high pitch whistle? Consistant, while accelerating, decelerating?

My wifes 01 makes a annoying whistle when I let off the throttle that is caused by a leak in the intake manifold gasket. I can tell it is coming from the front though.

have someone ride in the back while youre driving to pinpoint where its coming from. thats what id do anyways.

Try telling your kids to stop whistling when youre driving.

But on a serious note, put it up on a lift. Look for anything out of the ordinary, usually its the stupidest things causing the most annoying problems.

Hi, it can be that your differential is running out of lubrication, take a moment and check the fluid level in a flat surface.

i'll check the Diff this weekend. I wish i had a turbo........possible next upgrade. It also is very high pitched. I sounds like its coming from the my speakers. I noticed after a day of wheeling when i didn't have music playing.

My girlfriend was listening to country in my truck just before that....could that have destroyed the speakers.... hahahaha Just kidding

this generally happens with distributer engines... there is a resistor in most distributers that is suppose to take away the interference of the rpm's from the radio... i havent taken apart a jeep distributor but ive replaced this on my 72 chevy 350 before...

i would also think most radios would have this built in by now? maybe it burned out on yours?

Yep its a dis motor. Where do i need to look for this resistor?

I also bypassed the first harness because the original wire had a short i was to lazy to track down. This was just for the rear speakers.

There was a similar thread discussing this. Turns out the guy was using non-resistor spark plugs and that was causing the noise.

normally mounted on the outside under the cap or on the inside... jeeps distributors are smaller so i would think it would be on the outside... is sheetmetal in color most of the time and has one single black wire out of one end... shaped like a beer can... i also replaced this on a old ford truck too... forgot about that... i think they sometimes cause misfires too...
