Another cruise control thread. Quick Q 1999 XJ swap
Found a local 99 XJ at the salvage yard. Picked clean but still has the factory cruise on the steering wheel and the cruise actuator etc.
What will I need to grab to put it on MY 99? I know the steering wheel/switches and motor. Is there a "brain" somewhere or did Jeep build that into all XJs? If I need to grab the brain, what all will I need?
Any input here?
Thanks!

The cruise control is integral to the ECU. I'm like 84% sure that you'll need the steering wheel, maybe the clock spring, and the servo with the cable. Check your harness to see if you have the connector plug for the servo. Other than that, I think that's all that's needed.

Get all the parts and it is plug and play.
One of the first things I did to my '00.
You will want the actuator with the bracket and the 3 screws.
And IIRC the holes for the 3 screws are already there in your Jeep so you won't even have to drill them.
You will want the little vacuum line off the actuator too.
You can see it here in the picture.

So now you will want the switches off the steering wheel and clockspring.
Since you own a '99 you need the switches to be from a '99 to '01.
While '97 and '98 look the same it has been said they won't work. Something to do with ohms.
You will need a steering wheel puller to get the clockspring out.
Can be rented for free with any auto parts store that has the tool lender program.
Couple tips on this.
Try to make sure that the tires on the donor Jeep are straight.
See clocksprings are centered. Now if you can't get the tires straight it is not the end of the world.
There is a recentering procedure in the FSM.
When you pull the clockspring out there are 2 clips behind it. Try not to break them.
Also when you take the clockspring out secure the 2 halves so they don't rotate on each other.
Back to trying to keep it centered. This will become a little clearer one you get the visual when you do this.
So when you put all the parts in your Jeep disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 20 minutes.
Make sure the tires are straight on your Jeep. Secure the 2 halves of the non cruise control clockspring when you remove it.
Always good to hold onto parts IMO. LOL.
Oh and think you will need a torx to remove the switches. And maybe the air bag. Can't remember what size.
Sure there is write up out there for doing this.
You will already have a "T" in the vacuum line that is capped off to connect the little vacuum line from the actuator.
Oh and when everything is buttoned up and you go to start the Jeep for the first time do it from the passenger seat.
Just in case. LOL.

It appears last time I was there that everything was still there. Not sure if I will have time until Monday to run back out there.. The little plastic end on the cruise cable was sorta messed up as most folks think it pulls straight off instead of SLIDING off. I can fix that. Ill keep everyone posted when I get out there.

I added a clock spring and switch to my bone stock 99 and now I have cruise control. Everything else was already installed by the factory.
