Default Another electrical plug

my apologies for another one of these posts, I know there are several plugs used for different vehicle options. I came across another unplugged connection under the hood while repairing vacuum lines. Couldn't find another end where this might plug into. Hoping its for a vehicle option not installed on my model but thought id ask incase anyone recognizes

this connection.

thank you in advance

That's the CPS plug. Didn't we discuss this already? Isn't yours directly wired into the harness?

You would not be able to run the engine with the CPS disconnected.

I dont recall posting this before, The vehicle does run so it must be wired directly as you mentioned?

Then it was someone else with a similar question. It was a common mod to direct splice the CPS into the main harness to bypass the C101 connector. I recall the other poster had the same "stray" connector since someone didn't cut it off when they did the splice.

Edit: OK found it. For your reference: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/wiring-harness-272276/

im gonna have to go look under the jeep and see if the cps is attached anywhere. I do have two wires under my dash that are also loose that someone mentions are for the cps so I might have two loose ends. Do the wires in the cab under dash connect directly to the computer?

It's there and connected or it wouldn't run. The CPS is on the top of the bell housing just below the valve cover. Those 2 big wire bundles connect to their respective side of the C101 connector. The stray connector is part of the "engine side" of the C101. The other bundle goes through the firewall. The ECM is under the dash behind forward of the console. Post a pic of the connector with the wire colors.

these are the wires under the dash that someone mentioned was for the CPS on a different post. Theres no plug attached, im assuming this end would normally connect to the ECM which is also under the dash as you mentioned.

Gonna have to look how the CPS was hardwired, must be wired directly to the ECM

*If the CPS is plugged directly to the ECM is that a good alternative or would you recommend connecting to the stray plug as original from factory?

Yeah, those are the right colors for the CPS. Very odd that they are hanging out like that.

On the ECU, there's a small connector and a big connector. On the big connector Pin C1 should be the Violet w/tracer (sensor input). Pin D1 should be the White w/tracer (sensor ground). The FSM refers to CPS as the "engine speed sensor" if you refer to it.

***mystery solved***

so it’s been determined the stray plug is for CPS. And also the two stray wires under the dash. Today I pulled the ecu to see what was going on. Turns out the wiring and plug that connect to the ecu and goes thru the firewall was replaced at some point by PO. The Cps was plugged in as it should. Guess the previous owner left the original wiring behind for whatever reason. Looked back under the hood and found an identical plug that led to the sensor. This was one thru me off but glad to discover everything working as it should
