Another Freakin DW Post - I Searched Hard First

I'm going to have to disagree with the above poster. I had the death wobble at the exact same speed as you and it was caused by my tires. It wasn't just a slight steering wheel vibration, it was all out flying a space capsule back into earth's atmosphere. I did everything everyone told me to, checked tie rods, bushings, blah, blah and it winded up being my front tires being improperly balanced/warn unevenly. How do I know this? I rotated the fronts to the back and voila, smooth as a baby's ***.

OK, hold on a second. Bad tires or steering components cause a steering wheel vibration, this is NOT death wobble. If your tires start bouncing up and down at speed (sometimes violently) you have death wobble. Tires and steering DO NOT keep your tires on the ground, suspension and control arms do that. Now what exactly is your front end doing?

That is death wobble, tires and steering don't cause it. Look at everything that holds the axle in place. You already handled the track bar, spacers aren't the greatest but 2" isn't terrible, I would look at the lower control arms, once you lift the stock arms will actually twist left to right because they're stamped steel. If your not going to lift any higher you can get fixed length arms for under $100.
Totally gone when I got new tires. Not even a remote HINT of dw now.

Alright I know this is aggravating the heck out of you. I know you have changed parts and they said your tires are perfectly balanced. I know you don't want to throw all new parts at it and hope something works.
Somewhere along the line something has been over looked. Whether parts were under a load while being checked or maybe just not inspected. I would raise the front of the vehicle to the point there is no load on any parts either from binding on the ground or hanging by its own weight in the air. Just start at the LCA mount and work your way forward inspecting and greasing as you go along. Maybe it will help you find something. All we can do is point and shoot, and maybe get lucky.

I had DW cause by a loose nut from where the drag link connects to the pitman arm, it was tight, but not enough. But it was loose enough to cause DW....just an idea

X2 any steering component can cause it. The tires out of balance can cause a vibration which can loosen things that are already worn and just destroy them even more. Steering is vital to finding death wobble cause. Then again, I also have aftermarket control arms so I can't speak on that front. Tie rod ends can be worn without showing definite signs. They're cheap so why not replace? Also look into WJ upgrade

OP, try rotating your tires to see if that makes any difference. If that doesn't help, start looking into all the questions I asked earlier in the thread. And add tie rod ends to that list

Got new lower control arms (round bar not stamped) for a 2 inch lift today, with all the poly bushings, also went and bought all new bushings for the uppers. Am going to install all of it tomorrow and will let you guys know how it goes, I have done/checked everything else and really believe this has to be it. Cross your fingers!
Appreciate all your help.

Finished the lowers yesterday, made a big difference and I don't think it will DW anymore. Am going to do the uppers in my next days off work next week, really probably need all new arms though.
Am going to have to cut the bolts out as they're rusted in place and the arms are definitely a little twisted in places. Anyone got a stock pair of uppers that they could ship my way cheap? I would really appreciate the help and don't have much money left to throw at it.
Already got the new bushings as I said, just need some uppers, some basic stock ones will be fine as long as they're straight. Thanks guys and thank you for trying to help.

Guys, I'm on my 6th XJ, I've owned at least one for the past 19 years. Based on what he has already checked and changed I would probably buy back the LCA's from him if it didn't fix his problem. Or you could just try on a RC double steering stabilizer like every other knucklehead does...

My advise isn't based on "what I've read" or "what my mechanic did", it's based on years of busting my own knuckles. I'm not always right, but I only advise on problems I've actually fixed, your free to take it or leave it.
