another front axel breather hose
so im under the jeep, looking at my newly found coolant leak (which seems to be the freeze plugs, oh joy!! ) and i notice that the hose from the front axel is worn thru. looks like the u-joints from the front axel have been wearing at it and made their way thru the outer cover thru the hose itself. when i went to touch it the hose came out of the front pumpkin.
how is this hose attached to the diff?
and im noticing a strange smell. not coolant on the exhaust. a weird rubbery/plastic smell. could this be the cause of that?
what does the hose do?
thanks in advance!

From mu understanding the hose attaches to a small nipple on the exterior of the front axle. I am curious however, based upon your ttle "another front axel breather hose" does this mean you believe you have 2 hoses with the purpose of ventilation for the front axle? As far as your smell, this could be the root of your problem or it couldbe the other 10,000 possible things. Make sure you replace your axle breather hose ASAP. You dont wanna get water or gunk down in the pumpkin! Good Luck!!

There should be a fitting in that hole, whether pressed in or threaded, I am not sure which. Put a fitting there somehow and a new tube. Make sure that the tube is run high and fastened to the firewall. I also think that there is a check valve at the open end of the tube (you can get one from a junk yard or dealer) Finally drain and refill that axle as you don't want any water floating around in the pumpkin!
