nope, I can't find a reasonably priced one around here. They are all 80-90 bucks. I'm gonna pick up a used one from a totaled 99 this weekend and put it on. I will definitely post results when I ge t it figured out.

Is your check engine light on, saying that thier is a probelm with the CPS?
Don't change it just because you think that is the problem, your wasting your money, if there is no check engine light for CPS then its good.
You never mentioned if you have spark, or fuel at the rail. You need this infomation to properly troubleshoot it.

I have plenty of spark. I will check fuel at the rail right now, but even with ether or spraying fuel into the throttle body, I don't even get a sputter out of it. Yes,lots of fuel at the rail...

I just went through this with my cherokee, same sysptoms but when i sprayed ether it would run, I think I have it pinned down, I have a short in the fuel injection wiring harness, I also had spark and 40lbs of fuel pressure on the rail
Im stumped on this one, is the check engine light on???
I would get a fuel pressure gage to make sure you have the right pressure when cranking should be around 40psi, then I would pull one of the spark plugs and see and smell for fuel, while your down at Autozone getting the fuel pressure gage get the Noid lights(there is no charge to get this test equip once you return it) this checks to see if your getting voltage to your injectors

if your getting spark at plugs, fuel filters wet and still not cranking--try the tps sensor located upper rear bell housing of trans--it reads the rotation and "sends the fire" for the spark. 99 didnt necessarily have a common problem but was def seen alot. Hope that helps--Replaced the wifes twice in six years for same concern

Changed the cps with no luck. It seems to be throwing a code after I try and start it long enough. Gonna get the codes off it tomorrow. Man, I need to get this thing running. Driving my diesel back and forth to work is killing my wallet!

OK. So. I have the engine at TDC the rotor is in the right spot, but the dampner mark is off by 1/8 of a turn or more. How do I go about realigning my stars.. lol

I'm havin the same issue as you bud. Have a voltmeter? Check the resistance at the CKP connector on your intake manifold. The meter should read OL, or OUCH, and if the sensor has small amounts of resistance, replace it. That's what AllData says atleast.
Mine just sits there and cranks, but will occasionally sputter. Think I might be 180 degrees out. Just put in a new distributor.
And the Crank Position Sensor is abbreviated CKP. Not CPS.

Just an update for anyone who is interested. I finally got the timing chain out. Looks like it skipped! The alignment marks on the gears are way off. Lots of slack on a chain with 280k on it. LOL. Gonna pick up a new set and gaskets. Hope to be back on/off the road by the weekend.
