I installed new xfercase linkage and finally got it adjusted, so I figured I’d test it out. Running about 45mph I pop to neutral, drop to 4hi, and full time to make sure it engages and disengages like it should. But I noticed while running in full or part time at those speeds i can hear the 4wd working, like a spinning sound. Doesn’t do it in 2hi. It’s been 2 years since I’ve used the full time, so I can’t remember if it made that noise. It’s not a clicking or grinding noise. I’m thinking it’s just the driveline working since usually in 2hi it coasts.

is it a low whirring sound? if so its normal and the chain moving about. tho thats part time 4x4 for me and have not played with full time before, also you should not use part time 4x4 on dry pavement. full time i believe can be used on all roads and will kick in when needed

They get noiser as they get older. My freshly rebuilt 231 makes no noise at all in 4hi. 4low you get planetary gearset noise. Before the rebuild in 4hi id get what id describe as a "spinning" noise. My guess is in my case it was coming from the loose floppy chain that was jumping the sprockets in 4low under high torque conditions
