I think I recall the show. I could get most US shows where I lived.
Yeah, the banks pay them more to repo an aircraft if they also repo the records because the FAA requires continuous maintenance records on all aircraft. lol

It seems that there are fewer of us holding the torch for that culture these days, and we're getting older.

What is it that is leading them to hard times? Political? Economic? Just curious...
I am too...

very true.. When I was in the US prior to those years I have to admit I was the same way. I would hold on to the main repairs, services that I completed on my vehicles, but I wasn't as detailed as they are in general. And well, I assimilated those traits and now for the past several years have been very meticulous in keeping all records on them. I tend to keep my vehicles longer than the average person so I always maintain them religiously.
Which keeping somewhat on topic for the thread here.... since I didn't have any detailed history from the PO on my XJ, I've done more up front than maybe some others would. But this is also my DD so want to make sure I bring everything up to my standard of vehicle condition that needs to be addressed.

As for the Oz question... that's a very loaded question. And the answer is all the above and more. There are many factors that went into my personal decision to move to the US. I would say long term, it doesn't look good there for a number of important reasons. I'm basing off of facts and first hand experience from living there on a daily basis. Others may think it's the greatest place on earth and everyone has a right to their own opinion on it. I just know from my experience and other ex-pats I knew there, the future doesn't look good.

If you have issues with the gears, then you'd know it long before a fluid change/flush.
Where most of the issues occur after doing an actual flush, is with the clutch packs themselves. When you have shavings/other particulate matter that has settled into non-turbulent areas within the trans, and then the flush stirs them up into being suspended into the fluid... when they come in contact with the surfaces of the clutch packs it changes how they make contact with each other.... and from what I've seen/read, is that it can take a trans that was shifting just fine prior, now it develops slippage.
Similar thing is true with our own bodies... more often than not, it's the little things that take us down (micro organisms) not the macro ones.
So regardless how stout the AW4 is overall, a little thing like that can bring it or any other trans to its knees.
Just putting this out there as a testament to the durability of the AW4... I pulled my AW4 from a 1996 XJ that was completely trashed. The motor had a rod through the side of the block, the seats were all held in place by 1, maybe 2 bolts, the fenders were smashed up because there was a cobbled together lift and NO SHOCKS on it, and the seller told me that the transmission was shot. After some advice from a fellow forum member, I drained the fluid out, replaced it with fresh Dex/Merc III, and swapped it in along with the rest of the drivetrain outta that Jeep (was converting mine to 4wd).

That was almost 2 years ago now and that 165k mile "shot" transmission has been daily driving me to work and back ever since without a millisecond's worth of problems. Just figured y'all might enjoy hearing just how much abuse these AW4s can actually take.

Oh.... and the donor Jeep had thrown a rod because it had been swamped and the recovery.... well it didn't go so well lol.... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/im...points-229093/
