ATF- To flush or not to flush....that's the question

Yeah, the banks pay them more to repo an aircraft if they also repo the records because the FAA requires continuous maintenance records on all aircraft. lol

There's plenty that would keep me from living there, but it's great to hear how they are with maintenance documentation. I wonder how other countries are about this. With the US's rich history of "car culture", it's a shame folks today aren't better at maintenance and documentation. It seems that there are fewer of us holding the torch for that culture these days, and we're getting older.
What is it that is leading them to hard times? Political? Economic? Just curious...

Which keeping somewhat on topic for the thread here.... since I didn't have any detailed history from the PO on my XJ, I've done more up front than maybe some others would. But this is also my DD so want to make sure I bring everything up to my standard of vehicle condition that needs to be addressed.
As for the Oz question... that's a very loaded question. And the answer is all the above and more. There are many factors that went into my personal decision to move to the US. I would say long term, it doesn't look good there for a number of important reasons. I'm basing off of facts and first hand experience from living there on a daily basis. Others may think it's the greatest place on earth and everyone has a right to their own opinion on it. I just know from my experience and other ex-pats I knew there, the future doesn't look good.

well... while it may be true that the AW4 is built with similar reliability as the I6 4.0..... if not properly maintained, you can literally drive any reliable vehicle into the ground.
If you have issues with the gears, then you'd know it long before a fluid change/flush.
Where most of the issues occur after doing an actual flush, is with the clutch packs themselves. When you have shavings/other particulate matter that has settled into non-turbulent areas within the trans, and then the flush stirs them up into being suspended into the fluid... when they come in contact with the surfaces of the clutch packs it changes how they make contact with each other.... and from what I've seen/read, is that it can take a trans that was shifting just fine prior, now it develops slippage.
Similar thing is true with our own bodies... more often than not, it's the little things that take us down (micro organisms) not the macro ones.
So regardless how stout the AW4 is overall, a little thing like that can bring it or any other trans to its knees.

That was almost 2 years ago now and that 165k mile "shot" transmission has been daily driving me to work and back ever since without a millisecond's worth of problems. Just figured y'all might enjoy hearing just how much abuse these AW4s can actually take.
Oh.... and the donor Jeep had thrown a rod because it had been swamped and the recovery.... well it didn't go so well lol.... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/im...points-229093/
