Aussie Locker

Aussie Locker
Hey Guys,
I am thinking about an Aussie Locker. Any thoughts out there on whether or not this is a good choice? I don't do any hard-core wheeling but want to have the peace of mind that extra traction will give me.
Thanks!

there isnt enough traction to make them unlock automatically therefore they stay locked around corners causing your steering to be horrible. of course this only happens when you are in 4wd.

I see, sounds like a bad idea then. Your answer also brings another question to the table - Why is it that whenever people talk about an Aussie, they talk about it in terms of the front axle? Is it something that you shouldn't put in the rear?

well if you stay in 2wd during your DD then other then some clicking you will not notice the aussie at all if its the front. as the rear has power to it at all times you will notice it a bit more but it really isnt that bad, you just need to be aware whats back there.

It's not available for our 8.25 rear axle, which a majority of xj's have. It is in fact available for the dana 35. I think powertrax offers the no-slip locker for the 8.25.
Another reason why it's suggested in front is because it's silent in 2wd. WIth a rear locker, you will feel it on daily drives.
As for front lockers in snow, it's a little different than open diffs. You get the "plowing" effect where both tires spin at the same time and causing the front end to slide but this is very rare. Once you get a hang of the locker, it's like it's not even there. I never had a single issue in my short wheelbased wrangler and front/rear full time lockers in snow. It was actually pretty boring cuz i never had any trouble in the snow.
I just installed an aussie a few days ago and so far i am not liking this locker. I ran powertrax lockrights front/rear on my tj and they were alot better than this aussie.
