aussie lockers
im thinking about putting a aussie locker in my dana 30 i have a 97 jeep cherokee sport 4x4. on the aussie locker website it says you need open carriers, and that you cant have a limited slip diff how do i know if i have limited slip?
what exactly is a open carrier? does any one have a aussie locker and if so do they like them? i only need to get up and down fire roads and ranch roads nothing to crazy.
thanks for the help

30 is the front. it will have an open carrier unless the PO did some really creepy stuff to it. I have an aussie locker in mine and love it. I also really needed it. I wouldn't bother if I was doing fire roads. Cherokees are pretty capeable. lock if your in the mud, rocks, or frequently lifting a wheel off the ground flexing, none of which will happen often on a normal fire road.

I got one in my dana 30 and it was probably the best $250 i spent on the thing so far besides the gearing. It made my jeep go just about anywhere i want it to go and the traction improvement is insane. When your in 2-wheel is nearly invisible except for the occasional click or pop which is hardly noticable. I would definitely go for it if you do any type of moderate offroading

i just installed one in my rear axle (8.25) and the thing works great, but i will say that i wont be doing one in the front, the idea of a aussie in the front and back on ice doesnt appeal to me. instead im going with a ox locker up front at the same time i do gears on the truck

How does the Aussie Locker handle when in 2 wheel drive. I do not have the air disconnect front axle, so I am more concerned that the solid axle will have some bad road habits even when in 2 wheel drive.

I don't have the air disconnect either. In two wheel you won't even notice that the locker is there. Except for the occasional pop or click, but that doesn't affect the control at all you just have to get used to the occasional sound. As for 4-wheel, you will notice that its a little harder to steer and offroading the jeep will want to return to straight, but other than that the benefits definitely outweigh the costs. The traction improvement is insane and you will be able to go places you wouldn't even have considered before.
