On the Renix Jeeps which I am much more familiar with, over near the trans dipstick tube are 2 square connectors . They carry all the signals between the TCU, TPS and trans solenoids, reverse lights etc. I once had a shifting problem on my 88 and I unplugged both connectors, sprayed them out with electronics cleaner, added dielectric grease and plugged them back in. Problem solved. Worth a try, I guess.

I'll have to try that tomorrow. Also noticed my reverse lights are not working either but unsure if they were even working before.

Ok new problem symptom today. So went to autozone today to get dielectric grease to clean up all the connections and came back out got in the jeep to head to work and it wouldn't shift out of first gear! So pulled over and took the auto trans fuse out and drove it manually to work. I'm thinking the tcm is the root of my problems.

I'm no help except to agree you need to rule out bad connections.

On a side note this link gives a window into what the AW4 is doing. I did this mod to mine and like it very much for going down my hill.

So replacing the tps fixed everything check engine light went off and all. Idk why a faulty tps would code a speed sensor problem and also not allow shifting out of first gear is beyond me.

Like I mentioned in post #5, it has a trans side. Must be telling the TCU where you foot is. (Or Not!).

Thanks much for getting back, Glad you solved it!
