Default Automatic Transmission Mount Orientation

Hello all

I have a 2000 XJ with the AW4 transmission. What I am trying to figure out is the orientation of the transmission mount. I bought a new one and I noticed that it's a little lopsided. On one side of the base there are two gold dots and a "SIGMA" ... is that some kind of key? I've forgotten which way the old one was sitting.

Another issue I am having is my OBD2 reader isn't communicating with the computer, but it DOES get power, and goes through most of the steps, but gets hung up on this ISO 9141-2 or whatever. I disconnect and reconnect it again, and it will get past it, but then display a communication error. Airbags are disconnected, I think. Would that cause it? I know there are codes thrown for this thing.

Not sure what you mean by lopsided. Did you buy the right mount? The 00-01 used an offset mount. The 99 and older used a centered mount. Its possible you tried to install the mount 180* off. This will put the offset to the wrong side. It wont line up. Also, if you were to use a 00-01 mount on an older XJ, you need to swap the older crossmember for a 00-01 crossmember. And vice versa.

If by lopsided you mean the mount itself is crooked, that may straighten out once its bolted down with the weight of the trasmission on it. But i dont know. Need a pic.

You didnt happen to buy an Anchor mount, did you? Those are garbage.

Not sure about the no communication.

If you are talking about the mount, there is a slope to it to account for the slight angle of the transmission. The taller side should be facing the front. And yes, Mopar mounts are best.

Here is a pic from RockAuto for a 2000 XJ, but I got the part from NAPA and I am reasonably certain it is NOT Anchor brand. It looks exactly like the one in the picture. It says it was Made in Canada and on one side there is a stamped name "SIGMA" with two gold dots.

I checked Rockauto and that image is from the Pioneer brand. I do see a slope to it as OldTires posted. You can see it flipping thru the images. But that mount doesnt look offset to me. the ones im used to have the studs offset, not centered as the images shown.

Here is the Pioneer image. Fairchild shows the same stud arrangement.

This is the offset im referring to, using the Westar image as an example. The studs are not centered.

*I misread and thought you got the actual part from Rockauto, hence the links. But good info nonetheless.

Doesn't that key pin only let's you install it the proper direction? I saw on an install video for IROs 3 link you have to grind it off to use a older style trans mount with their kit.

Here are some pics I took of the dealer mopar mount I installed recently.

Here is a side by side of the mopar (looking new) vs. the old westar i took out (it had a few years). The mopar one went on easy, and got rid of a lot of noise the other mount was making. I also remember having a hell of a time getting the cross member back on with the westar, whereas the mopar just fit fine.

I am pretty sure EatonXj is correct. If you flip the mount in the wrong direction, the studs will not line up with the cross member holes (blush)

I was referring to this keying pin. He had to grind it off to use the older style trans mount.

See the hole on the newer style mount.
