Aw4 id question
Just recently purchased a used transmission from a salvage yard. I no it's an AW4 but I cant figure out what year model cherokee xj it from. The I'd tag is gone. It's got two speed sensors on it where the one in my 97 XJ only has one. The plug going to the speed sensors has 7 wires. The plug going to the NSS is the same as my 97 XJ. Any ideas? The trans came out of a XJ but it was stripped to the point I couldn't figure out what year it was.

It's a 98 or newer if it has the speed sensor on the front. The rear speed sensor in98+ puts on 4-pulses/rev versus your 97 TCM expects 1-pulse/rev. It's not going to work without some additional work to swap parts over from your 97. https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970
Just curious, why are you replacing your 97 AW4? It's rare that the transmission itself fails mechanically, and the vast majority of the problems are solenoids or sensors.

I was looking for something else and stumbled across an old book mark. Might have some good info for you:
